Professor Nathwani is the founding Executive Director, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) and holds the prestigious Ontario Research Chair in Public Policy for Sustainable Energy at the University of Waterloo. He has established a platform for a Global Change Initiative - AffordableEnergy for Humanity (AE4H), (https://ae4h.org/) - a consortium comprises 150+ leading STEM and social science researchers, energy access thought leaders, SMEs and practitioners from 50 institutions in 30 countries committed to eradicating energy poverty by 2030. Prior to his appointment at the University in 2007, Professor Nathwani worked in a leadership capacity in the Canadian energy sector over a 30 year period. His research interests include energy policy developments and entrepreneurial business innovations for sustainable energy solutions, He brings a unique combination of academic perspectives with extensive experience in the business sector that includes corporate planning and strategy, energy sector policy developments, power system planning, environmental and regulatory affairs and research program management. Professor Nathwani serves on several Boards at the provincial and national levels including the Ontario Smart Grid Forum, the Ontario Centre of Excellence, the Council for Clean and Reliable Energy and Scientific Advisor to the Waterloo Global Science Initiative. He has appeared frequently in the media (print, TV, radio) and has over 100 publications related to energy policy, environment and risk management, including seven books. Dr. Nathwani earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D degrees in Engineering and Environment from the University of Toronto between 1970 to 1979.
