Dr. Kumar Navulur

Dr. Navulur has over 23 years of experience in the Geospatial industry. He is the Senior Director of Global Business Development at DigitalGlobe, he is also the President of DigitalGlobe Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to create geospatial capacity around the planet. He serves on several boards including Open Geospatial Consortium, Flagstaff Academy Charter School, Geospatial Media and Communications, and United Nations Group of Experts of Global Geospatial Information. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Denver University and the University of Colorado. Dr. Navulur has an extensive experience using geospatial knowledge and satellite-based earth observation on energy industry. In his book “Multi-Spectral Image Analysis Using Object-Oriented Paradigm,” he talked about one of the conventional applications of earth observations - energy. In one of his projects with Bloomberg about oil analysis, he used imagery insights and analytics to estimate crude oil reserves and the exploration of oil and gas. He also works on developing data to build global resources maps for planning renewable energy projects. In addition, his works involve understanding the impact from the rapidly changing environment and how to respond to changes in the physical and operational landscapes in real-time. Dr. Navulur holds a Master’s degree and PhD in Remote Sensing and GIS Engineering at Purdue University in 1996.
