As Vice President of State Affairs for the American Wind Energy Association, Susan Williams Sloan leads a team working on state policy issues covering 40 states across the country, in legislative and regulatory affairs, to build market opportunities for wind energy. Susan began her career at AWEA in 2005, when she worked with the 150 partner organizations across the country in Wind Energy Works! to build understanding and support of wind energy. During Susan’s tenure at AWEA, wind has grown from 1,800 turbines installed in the US, to more than 54,000 today. Prior to joining AWEA, Susan represented the Wind Coalition at the Texas capitol in a successful campaign for expansion of the Texas Renewable Portfolio Standard and establishment of the Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ). She also was a founder of Solar Austin, convincing Austin’s leaders to establish significant renewable energy targets and a solar rebate program. Susan has worked for public officials at the Texas Capitol. She also represented cable and broadcast media interests before government and media, at the local, state and federal levels, as well as internationally, in Hong Kong.
